COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WVOC) - Governor Nikki Haley is dropping her request to extradite the biological father of a Cherokee Indian girl who was at the center of a bitter custody dispute.
Dusten Brown had been scheduled to appear Thursday in Oklahoma to face extradition to South Carolina.
Brown was charged in August with custodial interference for failing to hand over 4-year-old Veronica to her adoptive parents, Matt and Melanie Capobianco of James Island.
Last week, Brown gave up custody after the Oklahoma Supreme Court lifted an emergency stay that had kept the child in Oklahoma.
He still cold face arrest if he ever comes to South Carolina.
He has said he hopes to visit with his daughter.
