Police say a University of South Carolina student shot in Columbia's bar and entertainment district has been hospitalized in critical condition.
It happened about 2:30 Sunday morning in the 700 block of Harden Street in Five Points.
Authorities say the 18-year-old USC student was an innocent bystander.
Police say 20-year-old Michael Smith and a 17-year-old male were arguing when Smith fired his gun.
He missed his intended target, but a bullet struck a female who was in front of Pops Pizza restaurant with a group of friends.
Police on patrol spotted Smith running along Harden Street and apprehended him.
He's been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possessing a stolen pistol.
Police say the gun had been stolen in Richland County.
The 17-year-old was arrested on charges of public disorderly conduct.
