COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WVOC) - Investigators say a fire at a Columbia strip mall that did $1-million in damage to several businesses was intentionally set.
The Richland County Fire Marshal's office said the blaze started around 12:30 a.m. Monday in a self-storage business in the Spring Valley Commons Shopping Center northeast of Columbia.
Deputies are now investigating who set the blaze.
No one was injured, but it took more than 60 firefighters to put out the blaze.
It was a busy weekend for fires in the Midlands.
The American Red Cross of Central South Carolina says it responded to eight fires, providing disaster relief assistance to 23 people and referring families to partnering agencies in Richland, Lexington, Calhoun, Lee and Clarendon counties.
