COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/SCRN/WVOC) - The governor is asking her Cabinet agencies for a list of every building they own.
At her Cabinet meeting Monday, Nikki Haley signed an executive order demanding the list by December 15th.
The governor says she's wanted the information since she took office in 2011, but the Budget and Control Board has not compiled it.
Haley says she plans to review the list with department heads and figure out what the state can sell and consolidate to save money.
“To do right by the taxpayers, just for best-practice purposes and a good business plan going forward for the state,” Haley said, “we need to release this property. It's not necessary. It's not needed.”
The governor says consolidating space at the state Department of Health and Human Services recouped approximately $10-million.
Haley says she's considering giving some of the savings back to the state agencies.
