The South Carolina State Fair is stepping up to help the merchants in Five Points after several stories about escalating violence in the popular Columbia entertainment district – most recently, last weekend's shooting of a University of South Carolina student who was an innocent bystander.
State Fair General Manager Gary Goodman says Five Points is a valuable, viable and iconic part of the community.
And he says those who patronize Five Points businesses can receive free admission to the fair.
“We're very aware of the situation that's been going on down in Five Points and the negative publicity that Five Points has been receiving,” Goodman tells WVOC. “And we know it's not Five Points.
“We know that it's some people that are very bad causing that. And we're just trying to do something to just sort of bolster up Five Points merchants who do a great job all the year long.”
Goodman says starting today, a receipt for $25 or more in purchases at any Five Points establishment will get you two free admission tickets for the final day of the State Fair on Sunday.
That's a $20 value.
Receipts must be dated between October 18th and the 20th and have a special “Find Your Happy” fair theme sticker affixed by a Five Points merchant.
